Patras is a city planned virtually from scratch since it was almost completely destroyed during the revolution in the 19th century. The new city was planned under the supervision of Stamatis Voulgaris and on the orders of the first governor of independent Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias.Despite being the third largest city in Greece, as of today, it has a population of just over 200,000. Nevertheless, in late January and early February the streets and central George Square overflow with visitors eager to take part in the carnival fun for which the city is known throughout Europe.

  • The last points of the trail are located on the opposite outskirts of the city, and thus the trail was planned especially for those who have the ability to use a car. In the center of Patra, however, it is not always easy to find a parking spot, so we recommend that you visit the first 4 points of the trail on foot. It takes about half an hour to walk the route, excluding the time spent in each location.The castle, being fourth on the list, always closes at 3:30 p.m. and is also closed on Tuesdays, so we advise planning your trip so as not to miss the opportunity to visit the ruins of this once magnificent building.
